CANstruction Drop-In Activity
November 23 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Why is food security so important—and what does food mean to you? If you could design a can sculpture, what would it look like and why? And just how hard is it to build with can-shaped objects? Explore these questions with our CANstruction drop-in activities!
Try building with pool-noodle “cans,” create a CANstructure stamp collage, and share your thoughts about food security on our community board. Bring a canned-good donation to vote for your favorite CANstructure on display.
About CANstruction
CANstruction CANstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. In DC, CANstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) through donations of canned goods. Teams from DC architecture and design firms build sculptures out of cans of food, which are displayed for a week in the Great Hall of the National Building Museum. The nutritious shelf-stable food is donated to the CAFB for distribution to those in need after the event. This year’s event will take place November 23-December 1 and be on the theme “World Architecture.”
