The Museum is seeking an intern with interest in learning more about public relations, marketing, and social media in a museum environment. This internship focuses on press outreach and marketing for the Museum’s exhibitions, public programming, and shop. The intern will create targeted and effective communications campaigns, develop press lists and follow up with reporters, and support marketing projects such as implementing a digital content strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct press contact research though a PR database to develop and maintain lists
- Write press releases and digital content
- Research advertising and earned media
- Assist with press clip archiving
- Assist with social media campaigns
- Assist with tracking and maintaining statistics for Museum social media interactions and other website analytics
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, museum studies, or related subjects
- Writing skills, including a non-academic writing sample
- Experience in marketing or promotion
- Strong knowledge of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Commitment:
- Two eight hour days (or four half-days) per week
- Option to work remotely with scheduled check ins
A fall internship at the National Building Museum offers a wonderful opportunity to work in a world-class museum in a vibrant city. Interns work closely with staff on meaningful projects that build marketable skills.
In addition, summer interns also participate in Monday afternoon programing to enrich their experience. Activities may include: meetings with staff from different departments; behind-the-scenes tours of the museum and other institutions; resume & job search workshop; and more.
All internships at the museum are unpaid, but we are happy to work with your college or university to secure class credit.
