Development Intern
March 20, 2017
Development Department
The National Building Museum development department seeks an intern who is interested in learning about institutional advancement, fundraising, and the community of donors who support the Museum. The development intern will have the opportunity to work in all areas of development including individual giving, corporate sponsorship, foundation proposals, and special events. This is a great opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in development or those who are just interested in learning more about what fundraising is all about. Development interns will gain valuable experience using a fundraising database, conducting prospect research, and developing and supporting fundraising appeals.
Responsibilities:
- Prospect research
- Database projects
- Special event support
- Preparing donor solicitation and stewardship materials
- Assisting in membership mailing processes
Qualifications:
Candidate must have a BA or be currently enrolled student at the college level or higher.
Commitment:
A minimum of 16 hours per week, 24 or higher preferred.
A summer internship at the National Building Museum offers a wonderful opportunity to work in a world-class museum in a vibrant city. Interns work closely with staff on meaningful projects that build marketable skills.
In addition, summer interns also participate in Monday afternoon programing to enrich their experience. Activities may include: meetings with staff from different departments; behind-the-scenes tours of the museum and other institutions; resume & job search workshop; and more.
All internships at the museum are unpaid, but we are happy to work with your college or university to secure class credit.
If you have any questions about the intern experience at the National Building Museum, please email Kristen Sheldon, volunteer & intern manager, at ksheldon@nbm.org.
